PI got into the San Francisco FRINGE festival!
very exciting.
kind of a big deal for us.
september 3rd-14th.
doing our death show entitled AFTER-PARTY.
lots of work.
but we have plenty of time to work on it

also, we got into the Circus Center showcase.
not as big of a fancy deal
but still pretty sweet..
so in the end of june life will be crazy here in the clown commune.

but tis good.
things are a happenin'.

been a long time my internet friends.

this weekend, if you are in the city my clown troupe has a show!
PI, the Physical Comedy Troupe presents:
SEXY with sexy friends.
come join Pi for an evening of cabaret style performance with our sexy friends The Magiclowns, Alec Jones and The Flying Heseds.
Performances are in San Francisco at the Boxcar Theatre at 505 Natoma street.
April 24th, 25th, 26th at 8pm.
tickets are a sliding scale of 9-20 dollars bought at the door.
bring a date, its a scary neighborhood.

in other news...
pi just became the "artist in residence" for Boxcar theatre.
not sure what that means but it seems pretty sweet.
lots of performance opportunity and a place to rehearse and store some props and things.
my circus has fallen on some awkward times...not a lot of work these days.
but the coming months are looking better.
lots of random gigs.
got a gig in dallas in june.
should be fun.

the pi house here has fallen under some hard times.
two of our members lost a loved one just last night.
interesting when we are right in the middle of doing a show that deals with death.
but so sad.

not much else to update on my life
living in san francisco with a house full of clowns is always interesting and often booze filled.

hey friends
i need a song.

craig and i are trying to work on a sweet clown piece that would involve a song that we could sing to each other.
we had the idea to use the song anyone else but you by the moldy peaches.
but then...of course..a major lovely motion picture used it in the exact way that we were thinking of doing this piece.
as a result, we can't really keep using that song.
people will think that we stole the idea from the movie.

sooo.....my music loving slash knowing friends...any ideas?
something cute and sweet and simple?
something craig and i could sing?
something lovely and loving that is not overtly about love?
any leads or ideas would be great.

circus life is interseting.
and expensive.
have my first two gigs this weekend...lets see how well i do.
kind of frightened of one of the events.
winter wonderland party greeter.
dressed as an extremely elaborate version of the sunset blvd lady.
but should be lovely.
and the other event is at the oakland museum
which is our introduction to the world as this new performance troupe.
only about 10 minutes.
but...i'm excited about that one..
and i get to speak some german in it and wear a coat with tails and heels.

might have a new years party here.

just signed my contract.
one year to velocity.
had our first rehearsal today.
tired.
we are just getting ready for our premiere show, so no learning sweet new things yet.

andrew got me earplugs
at first they were weird...but they work so well.
frighteningly well.
don't want to get addicted to these.
but the sleep is so complete
no refrigerator noises our people waking up noises, no footsteps or crunching of plastic bags.
the damn plastic bags.

i'm exhausted.

well, ladies and gentlemen,
i am very excited to let you know that i have
JOINED A CIRCUS.
a professional one.
last weekend i went to my callback at Velocity circus, and i was cast.
as a head clown.
its the new Velocity Circus Performance Troupe that will be the main show that is sent out for the company.
training three days a week in classes such as swordfighting, powerizers(bouncy stilts), acro and aerial, and who knows what else.
don't have to pay for the training and get paid for the gigs.
there are already more gigs booked for us then they can tell us about, including out of state.
they have 5 people who just book gigs.
a full costume shop and prop shop.
man.
sorry, i'm just extremely excited!!!!
also most shows aren't hiring lady clowns. its very rare for a lady clown to be the head clown.
however, i am the head clown.
in a big theatrical circus.
normally i don't give a hoot about feminist shit, but i do have to say its pretty interesting in the clown world.
ok, i'm just excited and rambling now.

here is the website for the company - our thing is brand new so its not on there yet, but have a looks-y at the things they do.

well.
life in the clown commune is lovely.
i may not get much sleep, my bed may be a little on the hard side, i may have to walls made of curtains(sexy red ones though), i may have to walk 20 minutes to and from a bus everyday, sometimes in the rain at midnight, i may never have a moment of privacy, i may not even have my own computer (hence the lack of communications lately)
but no matter,
because i am happy.
this place, these people, this house even...its grand.
come visit us.
a house of 7 clowns.
its an interesting life.
a lovely life.
i may just need to invest in some earplugs for dining room sleeping.
now if only my love life was doing better....

i'm finishing packing up and moving my house today.
the three of us did not find places to live.
impossible.
nick may be taking this house over...which i feel sorry for but at least its a place.
aaron is moving back to his parents
and i am moving into the clown house for a month trial run.
i will be sort of living in a living room again, but paying a LOT less money per month, which will be lovely. andrew has crazy ideas to actually build me walls...we will see.
and its unfortunate because busses are rather bad, but all the clowns have cars so i will be able to get groceries and what not.
i'm moving lots of stuff to my sister's, whom i LOVE, because i just don't think there is the space for my mass amounts of treasures.

i figure, if there is ever a time in my life to live in a crazy situation then this is it. fresh out off of a circus tour, 23, single, occupation professional clown...i can handle the crazies.
so yes, today i move to the clown commune.
want to come visit?

the clowns got a house. and i don't know if i should move into it with them or go somewhere else with aaron.

the pros:
VERY nice neighborhood, one people are dying to live in.
living with all of my lovely clowns, who i would probably be hanging out with on a very regular basis anyway.
get to wake up to group juggling.
get my own bedroom complete with a DOOR and a closet.
more then TWO bathrooms.
has a living room and a dining room and a yard.
and a playground.
dishwasher. washer and dryer.
its in a eucalyptus forest.
i don't have to pay rent for september, even though they are moving in then.

the cons:
the nice neighborhood is the park presidio,
which means it is still not IN the city and about as far away from things as i am now.
there are only 4 bedrooms and a liveable basement for 7 people.
transportation to and from the presidio is not very good at all.
its by a golf course.
and its military run...which as far as i can tell just means you can't buy or paint or anything...but i don't know what else it means. parties? can we have them?
its 4000 a month and to have my own room means i will pay more then some(around 650?) and this is not including utilities.
if i don't move in with them, they are a little fucked moneywise, and may have to find another person to take my place.
aaron won't be living there, which means i put him out on his own and that i won't be living with him anymore.

i've been looking around for a two bedroom place cuz aaron and i are talking about moving to the mission or somewhere city in october...however the cheapest(which is hard to find) is around 1900 a month, which i can definitely not afford. we need more people, or i don't know how to do it.
so do i suck it up and live where i don't want to live but with the people i want to live with? or do i somehow try to find a new place for probably a lot more?
it would be a nice place to live, but the transportation and location or just so far from ideal.
now is the time to decide.

any insight you have would be lovely.

napa...
was lovely. a week of teaching circus camp and then doing some pretty sweet shows where they let me play a lot more.
very sunny.
it was fantastic.
smoked my first cigar, drunk by the hotel pool at 3am.
great food, lots of wine, little bit of a tan.
not to mention, queen latifah walked through our camp, and we got backstage to watch her show for free.

harry potter...
worked the midnight party.
never seen so many adults dressed up!!
it was crazy but loads of fun.
got home around 3:30am after many crazies were already halfway through it, i'm sure.
currently reading the book.
taking my sweet time.

tomorrow i leave for santa rosa for three days with the circus.
staying in the hilton.
should be nice.
i need a big ole distraction right now.
i think i'm slightly heartbroken.
its ok, it happens.
but santa rosa will be a nice way to sort myself out.

then my circus will be fully over.
sad.
next?

i can't wait for pi to get here.

living right by the beach at 4th of july time is both wonderful and shit
fireworks all night long.
yes they are pretty
and the only way i got to see any since i closed last night, which was nice,
BUT so fucking LOUD.
when its 4 in the morning, maybe we shouldn't be sending off huge fireworks that loudly explode over or near my house.
no sleep the last two nights.
but luckily, no work today!

nothing says fun like waking up at 5am to perform for kids.

school tour is going well...our piece still has its issues, but hopefully they are slowly working themselves out. its not too bad, but not exactly the show i had hoped for.

my fancy circus opened and it went rather well.
got a lot of nice compliments.
one of my very respected teachers put a hand on my shoulder and said "good"
mr. lui yi shook my hand and said "thank you. you funny"
these are amazing compliments from amazing people.
circus compliments. the simpler the better.
i am slowly realizing just how different circus and theatre are.
in circus, if the music stops, the show stops. there is no just going on. you stop and you wait for things to get back on track. so strange.
in circus, you bow twice. you actually choreograph a second bow because you know that people will want it.
in circus, after the show, people still expect you to be funny. (and you HAVE to go see them while still in costume) they point at you and wait for you to do something "clowny". i have never had someone laugh at something i said, point at me and wait for me to say or do something else. very odd.

but with the two shows open, this year almost done, my grandmother's surgery going well and some good(although still unsure) boyness, there is definately less stress in my life. which is great. and means that i'm sleeping...at least a little bit.

now i just have to figure out my summer.
job? classes? summer lovin'?

well off to a three show tour today.
then working at borders.

hot waterless for a weekend.
so we boiled each other showers.
not as fun as one might think.
but the heat is back!
and the days are warm...although still with a cold breeze
and the sunsets are amazing.
although insanely tired and busy still
things aren't too shabby.

some good things.
-i can now do a backbend and stand back up, no spot!
-i got the circus job! head clown in the sf circus for the summer.
-getting paid for said job.
-performing at the julian morgan center for the arts next weekend.
-birthday coming up
-pi auditioned for clown school yesterday so i got to see all of them and i saw joe last weekend.
-none of my pants fit.

some bad things.
-homesick.
-miss so many people and things
-none of my pants fit...and there is no money to buy more.
-don't sleep. seriously i get an average of 3 hours a night.
-work.
-no green mashed potatoes today.

all in all, while life is actually going pretty well, i'm just kind of sad all the time. i think the serious lack of sleep is really getting to me...that and the having no money and working all of the damn time.
i need a serious vacation.
and it doesn't seem like i will ever get one.
life, eh?

yesterday at around 3 pm
i got punched in the head.
by a boy.
it was a clown scene gone wrong, a very large accident that took me down.
hard.
i mean wow.
brings our punching game to a whole new level.
i have honestly never been hit that hard in my life.
much less in the head.
i went to the urgent care today...
because i have been out of it, nauseaus, dizzy, crying incessantly and unable to focus, not to mention couldn't sleep or eat
and i have a CONCUSSION.
my first ever.
of course, they didn't believe me that i was a clown who had an accident
they repeatedly asked if i had any other bruises,
if he beat me often,
how long had this abuse been going on.
it seems when you say you got punched in the left temple by a boy...they don't want to believe anything but abuse,
pretty hilarious if you ask me.

soo...
clown school is dangerous.
the sad thing is, i won't even get a black eye to show off.
what a shame.

well, its february.
not a very good start to the month
we had a show for faculty on thursday a week ago
an hour before one of the girls fell off of a rolling globe and hurt her knee.
as in hospital hurt.
she tore something and has to get surgery.
not good.
i think i'm making myself sick with stress.
literally.
this is also not good.
i'm going to a bank today to beg for a loan.
BEG.

on teh very good side,
although probably only exciting to my ladies on here...
i bought a size smaller in pants yesterday!
and it was no fluke pair ... i tried on several in that size.
WOOT!
guess all of this hardwork and my starting to eat much better is FINALLY doing some good.
and a customer told me i was beautiful.
i mean, he was kind of a creepo, but still.
its nice to hear.
so although it has been a shitty month so far...it may be on its way up

well its settled,
i will be staying in san francisco for at least one more year.
i'm not sure if i will be doing more clown school
but i do know PI is coming
-my clown troupe from ucsc
and we will be clowning.
they came last weekend
i forget what it is to have people who know you that well around.
i need to make more time for people.
i just...don't know how to do it.
i work and school so damn much.
but it will all be worth it
someday.

someone dropped out of clown school this week.
we are now only 11.
its really strange and sad for someone to leave a program like this, without any warning with such a small group of people.
he let one teacher tell him that maybe he was in the wrong place, that maybe he shouldn't be a clown, and that was it. i mean, there were other reasons for sure, but man. wouldn't that just make you work harder instead of sending you packing? he has lots of other opportunities, he is an actor with some great things lined up, and one of the most talented clowns in our program. its sad that he just gave up on the clowning.
sometimes i forget what a harsh place school can be.
also, i forget that acro makes me want to puke some days.

i think the keys to happiness in this city are:
a job you like
friends
doing what you love (i.e. clowning, theatre, or dancing)
location (i will never live in the sunset again...too far away from anything)
friends
money (this is not essential, but certainly helps)
embracing the weather
realizing that you will have shit times, but that as long as you have people in your life that care about you, and you are able to work on what you love, things will be fine.
